PODA
PODA WOMENS AGRO GROUP
PODA women's group is a network of women who are processing coffee and creating a more equitable coffee trading system as they do so. There are 6 women’s groups that make up Soripada, with a total of 290 farming members. They have created the space for the strong, wise, and fierce Batak women in the Sidikalang area to have more say in their finances and more places of leadership in their community.
PODA was started by Samuel Sihombing. Having formerly been a pastor in a local Batak church; he now has shifted into a role of training women to be leaders through coffee as well as implementing a tracking system that allows for full traceability. He has been nominated and awarded many times for his work to make the coffee trade system more sustainable.
In 2021 we began sourcing PODA coffee with the help of Kopi Kedaya (formerly Goodel Indonesia) and by working together we were able to introduce their coffee for the first time outside of the local Indonesian market.
