SOLANO FAMILIA
CONCEPCIÓN BUENA VISTA
La Concepcion reaches 1850 meters above sea level, a mountainside farm, only 5% is flat terrain the other 95% being hillside. David Solano, 4th generation coffee farmer, co-founder of 12 ONZAS and 3-time national barista champion lives in Guatemala city where 12 ONZAS coffee is located. David runs quality control and exporting for Concepcion Buena Vista, visiting often during harvest time. Eddy, his brother, lives on the farm and manages it year round. David's father, Don Bernado, age 69, was born and raised on the farm. Completing school with an Agricultural Engineering degree, his role on the farm is largely maintaining the land and the coffee plants as they grow.
3 generations back when their grandfather took over the farm, he worked to make it self-sustainable by raising pigs and chickens and growing produce for his family alongside the coffee. The farm continues to practice these ways of living by providing schooling for children, a nurse staffed health care facility, a catholic church and housing to those who work on the farm during the harvest season.
A trip to Guatemala in 2019 is what initiated our interest in coffee sourcing and importing. David mentioned he appreciates our approach to trading coffee, because it's transparent and there is effort put into good communication. We appreciate it about him too.
